Here is what  you missed if you did not attend the August 21 club meeting.

  • The club is interested in dark sky initiatives and a member had found out that PEC has committed to placing shields on all street lights.  This information was greeted with great appreciation.
  • We will be adding a webpage for astrophotography.
  • One member brought in three amazing photos he had taken of Saturn, M8 and M16.  He described the software he used for taking and creating the photographs.  The image of Saturn came from stacking 500 frames.  These taken from 10,000 images that had been shot.
  • There was a discussion of the closing down of HAARP (High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program) and the conspiracy theories surrounding the program.
  • A website the astronomers look at every day is heavens-above.com.  With this site, a user can find out what stars and satellites are overhead.  There is a link on the Favorite Astronomy Websites Page.
